FANS HAVE SAY ON STADIUM NAME
Don’t change the name!
Sunderland AFC supporters have said they would not want to see naming rights to the Stadium of Light sold off by Black Cats’ bosses.
Current chairman Stewart Donald revealed recently that the club has held talks with companies regarding naming rights of the club’s home since 1997.
But Sir Bob Murray, who oversaw the club’s move from Roker Park to its new home back in 1997, said he had always been against such a move and that the Stadium of Light was a ‘unique and inspirational’ name.
He said: “I felt the stadium name should belong to the club and its fans rather than a corporate entity.”
More than 2,000 people took part in our poll asking whether or not you supported selling off the naming rights.
Of those, 66% said no and 34% yes.
