Council to get new name

West Rainton Parish Council is to have fewer councillors and a new name.

Following a public consultation, West Rainton Parish Council will be known as West Rainton and Leamside Parish Council from next April and, following the local elections in 2021, the number of seats on the council will be reduced from 11 to nine.

The changes follow a community governance review carried out by Durham County Council. The review was carried out in response to a request from the parish council which had submitted a petition signed by more than 280 people.
