Late goal hands win to Wolves

-

Sunderland’s Under-23s crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Wolves thanks to a late deflected strike.

Oscar Buur’s 85thminute strike proved to be the game’s only goal.

It was tough on Elliott Dickman’s side, who had competed well with the title hopefuls at Eppleton.

Dickman had handed starts to teenager Bali Mumba, who had missed out on a place on the bench for the first-team’s abandoned game against Accrington Stanley yesterday.

Andrew Nelson was also handed his first start of the season after returning from injury but the striker found opportunities hard to come by in a tight game.

The closest either side came to breaking the deadlock was when Sunderland defender miscued a clearance onto the frame of his own goal.

After the break, Wolves had more possession but Swedish striker Benji Kimpioka had a golden chance to win the game for Sunderland, only for Wolves goalkeeper Andreas Sondergaard to deny the forward with his feet.

And just seconds later, Wolves full-back Buur strode forward and his shot deflect past Anthony Patterson to seal the points.
