MISSED OPPORTUNITIES COST US POINTS - CURTIS

SILKSWORTH CW COACH BELIEVES HIS SIDE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN MAXIMUM POINTS

-

Silksworth CW coach Michael Curtis believes his side paid for not taking their chances in their 1-1 draw at West Auckland Tunns.

A Josh Farquhar header put Silksworth ahead at halftime, but they had to settle for a point as James Marley got the hosts back on levelterms after the restart.

The point leaves the Wearside outfit in sixth place in the table, but Curtis insisted that his side should have taken more from the game.

He said: “It was a decent performance from us, but we probably paid for not taking advantage of the opportunities we created.

“We also had a spell of bad defending and poor decision-making in the secondhalf.

“That led to us conceding the equaliser after a scramble in the box and we have to say we looked a bit shaky.

“The conditions weren’t the best, but that can’t be an excuse because both teams have to play in them.”

Wolviston stretched their lead at the top the table to five points after their dramatic 4-3 win at Hartlepool FC.

The league leaders were three goals ahead inside 53 minutes at Grayfields thanks to a brace from Phil Otele and a strike from Stewart Bath.

Hill’s side got back into the game with quickfire strikes from Dean Cope and Matty Gardner, but Nathan Bayes grabbed a decisive fourth for Wolviston and his side held on for a win, despite Jamie Tumilty reducing the arrears late on.

Hartlepool manager Terry Hill was left to rue the “silly mistakes” that his side made in the defeat.

He commented “I have mixed emotions because we played reasonably well against a decent side, but we conceded some very soft goals at bad times, which changed the game.

“We made some silly mistakes and they are costing us. “I felt we were the better side in possession, but we needed to be more clinical in front of goal.” Richmond Town are into the top five after a brace from Scott Ryan and goals from Simon Pinkney, Jason Newell, Joe Shields and Tom Carnegie-Brown gave them a comprehensive 6-1 win against bottom-of-thetable Coxhoe Athletic.

Joe Johnson got the only goal of the game to help Annfield Plain to a 1-0 home win against Boldon CA and Windscale battled back from two goals down to claim a 4-3 win over Gateshead Leam Rangers.

Connor Taylor and Connor Halpin were on target to put Leam Rangers into a two-goal lead before the halfhour mark.

Laurie Black got Windscale back into the game ahead of half-time but Taylor’s second goal of the day restored Leam Rangers’ twogoal advantage.

But three goals in 18 minutes from Kevin Holliday, Ben Graham and Zac Little helped Windscale to dramatic win.

Haydn Pace scored twice and there was a goal apiece for Robbie Renwick and Peter Crawcrook as Horden CW moved into the semi-finals of the TWR Shipowners Charity Cup with a 4-1 home win against Darlington RA.

Ryan Bolam and Nathan Sinclair both found the net as Hebburn Town Reserves progressed into the last four of the Durham Trophy with a narrow 2-1 win against Darlington Town.
