Stockton get better of RCA for third time

-

Sunderland RCA’s hopes of a League Cup triumph were ended as Stockton Town inflicted a second defeat in four days on Martin Swales’ side.

Last season’s FA Vase runners-up claimed a 4-2 win over RCA at the Coverall Stadium on Saturday.

That ensured that the Teesside outfit completed a league double over the Meadow Park club and they made it three wins out of three this season with a narrow win on Wearside last night.

The visitors had the better of the play during a quiet first-half and took the lead just after the halfhour mark.

There was an element of fortune about the goal as RCA’s Ross McNab deflected a Max Craggs freekick into his own net from close range.

Swales’ side couldn’t lift their game in the second half and failed to really trouble Anchors debutant keeper Josh Moody.

That meant that McNab’s own goal was the difference between the two sides and Stockton will join the likes of Consett, Whitley Bay and Chesterle-Street Town in the draw for the last eight of the competition.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has been charged with misconduct in relation to betting.

In a statement, the FA said: “It is alleged that he placed bets on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, football matches or competitions during the 2017/18 season in breach of FA Rule E8.

“He has until 6pm on 20 December 2018 to respond to the charge.”

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony described the development as a “storm in a teacup.”

MacAnthony tweeted: “Myself & club fully behind Barry on this. Storm in a teacup & will be resolved & full facts revealed once his hearing happens and finishes etc. Trust me on that.”

Fry, 73, has been director of football at Peterborough for over a decade after previously being manager at London Road for just under 10 years.
