SOUTHWICK UP FOR THE CUP

SUNDERLAND SUNDAY LEAGUE

-

Southwick’s All England Cup dream lives on after a convincing 3-0 win at Leeds City Rovers.

Anth Ross, James Fairley and Jack Devlin all found the net for the win, securing a home tie in the last 16 against Durham-based Greenside on January 20.

In the Sunderland Sunday League Premier Division, the top two locked horns with RCA Grangetown Florists emerging on top with a 2-1 win at Hylton Castle TC Plastics.

John Bewick and starman Dan Thompson scored for the Florists before Callum Hope responded for the home side.

Sunderland Railway Club remain rooted to the foot of the table despite a rare point from a 3-3 draw against New Town.

The Premier strugglers let their lead slip as New Town were equal to everything.

Rogerson (2) and Slack netted for the Railway and Bishop, Thompson and Lewis Holland levelled.

A single Jack Young strike was enough to see off The Lansdowne and ensure Stella Dons chalked up three points to keep them in the hunt for second spot. Andy Smith shone for the Lansdowne.

In the First Division, Ashbrooke Hendon’s mini-revival ended as Washington Sky Lounge inflicted upon thema 3-1 defeat.

Man-of-the-match Davey Newby scored early on for the Hendon side but a strong Washington outfit overcome the hosts and goals from Logan, Grainger and Thompson claimed the points.

Lewis Herron - aka Mr Herrington - bagged a hattrick to help ease Herrington CW to a 6-2 win at The Stella, and into second spot in the table.

Port of Call heaped more misery on Pennywell Comrades, whose awful run continues.

Port of Call’s 5-2 win moves them to top of the league, and featured doubles from Liam Houghton and Jordan Dagg.

Jonny Greener scored for the Comrades but it was in vain as Richie Jordan hit his first for the Port to round off the scoring.

And in the Total Sport Challenge Trophy, Premier Division side Silksworth CW were taught a lesson by First Division league leaders The Stackyard, who won 7-2 with Wilson (2), Dan and Lewis Ross, McDermott, McCollin and Norton on target.
