Dickens gives great expectation to table-topping Queen Vic

-

The Queen Vic moved three points clear at the top of Sunderland Sunday League Division Two with a 2-0 win at second-placed The Board Inn.

Dickens and Muir scored the all-important goals.

Park View were rampant winners in a mid-table clash at Redhouse, the visitors running out 5-1 winners.

That was mainly due to four goals from star player Jordan Southern, Sam Robinson finishing the scoring.

Redhouse hit a late reply through substitute Ryan Tench.

Myers moved off the bottom of the table with a 4-2 win at fellow strugglers Ryhope CW.

Efforts from Michael Smith, Craig Raine and a brace from Craig Collin handed them the three points.

Ryhope did what they could to keep themselves interested as Matty Jones and Robert Paige replied, but it was to be Myers’ day.

As such, The Grange now find themselves stuck on the bottom of the pile after Washington Athletic hammered them in an 8-3 win.

Middlemas (2), Hardwick, Docherty, Longstaff, Freeman, Sinclair and Cooper put The Grange to the sword, the reply coming from Lane and two from Hughill.

Washington New Tavern won 5-1 against Ryhope, with Corrighan (2), Gray, Robinson and McIntyre all scoring.

Both sides had players sent for an early bath but Ryhope still found the net through Mitchell.

A glorious hat-trick from Shaun Barras set the Kings Arms on their way to another league win and it was the Victory Club who were on the wrong end of a 5-1 defeat.

Gaz Topping replied for the Club but further goals from Dixon and Cassidy finished the scoring for the Kingsmen. In the Third Division, Wear United raced to second place in the league with a dominant performance and a 7-3 win over Witherwack.

Michael Smith’s lads are gunning for promotion, and look a good bet for it.

Taylor and Sam Wade both struck two goals apiece, followed by a goal each from Walters, Morton and man-ofthe-match Jack Curry.

The Wackers could only muster two goals from legend Daz Green.

Oddies increased their points tally at the top of the league with a close 6-4 win over Millview CIU.

Paul Webster was on hand to hit a his customary hattrick, Stevie Lax notched and Richie Timm scored a trademark free-kick.

Millview did rally back and breached Oddies’ defence, Roberts hitting two goals followed by Conlon and a David Laing strike, but Oddies put the game to bed when Hiles hit their sixth of the game.

Grindon Broadway have moved closer to the relegation trapdoor after their latest defeat at the hands of Penshaw CC, losing 4-2.

Kane, Binks (2) and Alex Simpson won it for the home team, though Aaron Clasper did his best scoring twice for Grindon as they drop to second bottom.

Sunderland North recorded only their second league win of the season, which saw them move off the bottom of the table with a 3-2 win over Washington Blue Bell.

North had Thompson, Little and Smith on target to cancel out Mark Smith’s double for the Blue Bell.

In the Fourth Division, AFC Houghton earned a valuable point from a 2-2 draw with Washington Cherry Tree to move away from second bottom.

They were on course for an unlikely win when Lee Gaunt scored twice but the Cherries cancelled out their efforts after strikes from Sam Reiling and Shaun White.

And in a top-versus-bottom clash, Carpets Centre Elite toppled North Biddick 3-1.

Woodward opened the scored for North Biddick but the Carpetmen were in no danger as Brazier, Harrison and Rose won the game to see them go one point clear at the top.
