Munday and Storey steer Silksworth CW into third semi-final of the season

-

Silksworth CW are looking forward to their third semi-final of the season after their 2-0 win at Darlington RA put them into the last four of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup.

A goal in each half from Harry Munday and Adam Storey were enough to see off the former Northern League club at Brinkburn Road.

The win was hard-earned as Silksworth had to play with ten men for almost the entire second-half after goalkeeper Jak Wright was shown a red card for a professional foul on Chris Tarn.

That meant defender Lee Graydon replacing the stopper between the sticks, but he was rarely tested as his side continued their impressive form in the cups this season.

Silksworth manager Will Crew was delighted to see his side reach another semi-final.

He said “We seem to be relishing life in the cup competitions this season and it’s a sign of the progression we are making at the club.

“It finished 2-0 and we were comfortable.

“The first goal was a lovely passing move finished by Harry and the second was a good counter-attack.

“We had Jak sent-off early in the second-half and Lee went in goal, but we just looked comfortable throughout the game.”

Hebburn Town Reserves manager Kevin Bolam lauded his side’s performance in their 2-0 win at Wearside League leaders Wolviston.

The Hornets second-string produced a fine display as goals from Shaun Reay and Tom Wade helped them become only the second side to defeat the Teesside outfit this season.

It also extended their own unbeaten run to 23 games in all competitions and Bolam admitted that his players have surpassed his own expectations so far this campaign.

“At any level, to have this sort of unbeaten run, is remarkable,” he explained.

“We have a very young squad and we are ahead of where we thought we would be at the start of the season.

“It was the best performance so far, but what pleased me most was the style in which we played.

“We love to get the ball down and play, but it was the way we worked hard off-theball that earned us the win.

“The work-rate and attitude were both top class and we need to keep that going until the end of the season and see where that takes us.”

Harton and Westoe CW wasted a golden opportunity to close the gap on thirdplaced Sunderland West End.

David Crumbie’s side fell to a 3-2 defeat at Horden CW, despite recovering from an early strike from Robbie Renwick to go in front thanks to goals from Jason Pressling and Grant Pressling.

Renwick would go on to complete his hat-trick and give the hosts all three points.

Hartlepool FC claimed a point from their trip to Richmond Town after second-half goals from Sam Cook and Lee Jones helped them claw back a two-goal deficit.

Ben Darville and Chris Pattison put Richmond in complete control at the break but the visitors rallied after the interval to claim a deserved point.

First-half goals from Wayne Whitfield and Myles Swift eased Darlington Town to a 2-0 win against Windscale and Kai Hewitson hit a hat-trick as Annfield Plain romped to a 5-0 win at Gateshead Leam Rangers.

Carlos Malpass and Joe Johnson also found the net for the visitors.

Boldon CA moved up to eleventh in the table after securing only their fifth win of the season.

Goals from John Murray, Codie Howe and Jonathan Basham gave them a 3-1 home win against West Auckland Tunns.
