Two charged with murder of Gavin Moon
DAD-OF-TWO WAS FOUND DEAD LAST WEEK
Two men were today due to appear in court charged with the murder of dad-oftwo Gavin Moon.
Mr Moon, 31, was found dead with a fatal stab wound at a house in Trafalgar Road, Sulgrave, Washington, at 2pm last Tuesday.
Northumbria Police have since arrested five people in connection with their inquiry.
On Saturday afternoon they announced that Brian Goldsmith, 47, and Luc Barker, 28, have been charged with murder.
Goldsmith of Wayman Street, Sunderland, and Barker of Trafalgar Road, Washington, were remanded in custody and were due to appear before magistrates on South Tyneside today.
A 36-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released with no fur- ther action to be taken.
A fourth man, aged 46, also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released under investigation.
A 24-year-old man released earlier in the week will not face any further action.
After his death, Gavin’s family paid tribute to the ‘devoted dad’ in a statement.
They said: “Gavin was a devoted dad to his children and a loving son.
“His unexpected loss has hit us hard.
“We would request that our privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time as we come to terms with Gavin’s death.”
Senior Northumbria Police officers are emphasising that the case is an isolated incident.
Superintendent Paul Milner added: “My message to the community is one of reassurance.
“Crimes of this type are not common in this area, and we will continue to leave no stone unturned in this investigation.”
Detective Chief Inspector John Bent added: “Our thoughts are with Gavin’s family at this incredibly difficult time, and specialist officers continue to offer them any support they need.”
