Donnison School reveals 2019 programme of events

-

From afternoon teas to murder mystery nights - there’s something for everyone at a Sunderland school in 2019.

The Donnison School is preparing a year of events including talks, tours and pie, peas and mash nights.

First up at the restored Georgian school is a talk by the school’s spokesman Janette Hilton on Monday, January 28 from 1.30pm. She will give an insight into developments at the school. Admission is £3 or £2.50 for members.

On Monday, February 25, Stuart Miller will discuss the Black Hole of Calcutta, starting at 1.30pm. Both are part of the Lovell series of lectures.

The Donnison’s special heritage events start on Friday, March 1, at 7pm when historian Jack Curtis talks on Sunderland in the era before flushing toilets and running water. There’s pie, peas, mash and a glass of wine or beer on the itinerary as well.

Interested people can also book up for afternoon tea at the Donnison for tables of six or more. Fresh cream tea will be served in fine china in the Georgian schoolroom.

Onanothertheme, thecentre is also planning day trips throughout the year to places such as Pickering, Helmsley and Skipton market.

And later in the year, lovers of intrigue can enjoy a murder mystery night on Friday, November 1.

On top of all that, there will be tours of the East End, a chance for schools to visit the Donnison, and community singing every Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm with the Sunderland Intergenerational Singers.
