Seaham send highflying Blyth packing
A previously unbeaten Blyth came to Seaham looking to extend their lead at the top of Durham and Northumberland Division Three, but were sent home empty-handed.
From the outset, John McCallum’s men proved admirable opponents and took the game to their high-flying visitors.
Blyth stormed up the field and troubled their hosts into conceding a penalty which they converted against the run of play.
The Harbour men bounced straight back and finished off a dominant spell when Jack Adamson found David Fisher, he sent Chris Bland over for his 13th try of the season.
Connor Drinkwater’s touchline conversion snuck in and Seaham led 7-3.
Elliott Pratt made a break and sprinted home to touch down for his first try of the season.
Seaham were caught offside and Blyth’s fly-half kicked a second penalty to make it 12-6.
Seaham were to have the final say of the half when John Dixon touched down.
The invigorated visitors kicked a third successful penalty, but Seaham were to maintain their stranglehold for the remainder of the half.
Seaham broke upfield with a storming Alex Coxon run and their forwards set up a ruck. The ball was dummied inside then spun left for James Bromley to nail the bonus-point try.
Following a serious of forward drives, David Fisher popped up to drive over for try number five, with Connor Drinkwater converting.
Blyth had a brief renaissance when they broke Seaham’s defensive line to make it 29-14.
Connor Drinkwater scored try number six when he bundled through two defenders to extend the lead to 34-14.
Two unconverted tries did little more than make the scoreline flatter the visitors.
At the end of the day, Blyth were sent home empty-handed and it was Seaham who looked like the team chasing promotion.
