NOVELS BY SUNDERLAND AUTHOR UP FOR GRABS
Fancy stepping back in time to follow the tale of Sunderland life a century ago?
We have two copies of Ryhope author Glenda Young’s Belle of the Back Streets to give away as she prepares to see her next book in the run of three head to the printers in May.
Glenda has turned her talents to writing a host of books before, including work on Coronation Street, fan websites and the Riverside soap for People’s Friend, but Belle of the Back Streets is her first fictional novel.
Set in Glenda’s home village in 1919 and based on research about the area at the time, it follows the story of a girl who has to take on her father’s rag-and-bone business, chronicling the people she knows and characters she meets, as well as her relationship with her horse.
Glenda said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the warm and supportive feedback from those who have read the book. It’s been amazing.
“The support from Sunderland book lovers made the book chart at number two in the Waterstones Sunderland chart, which is wonderful for a hardback book from a debut novelist.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their lovely comments.
“Readers have said they’ve been touched by the story and that it’s had them in tears – which as a writer, is good to hear – in the best possible way.
“I was in tears at times when I was writing it as it’s a real rollercoaster of a storyline.”
