Dawdon make semis but DLI take advantage in the league

Horden DLI climbed to second in the Chilla Pizza Peterlee & District Sunday Premier Division after a 5-1 win against relegation-threatened Seaham Marlboroug­h.

A hat-trick from Robert Renwick proved the difference, with substitute­s Declan Blades and Stuart Softley also on the scoresheet and Lewis Wilkinson with the reply.

Easington CIU added further misery to a very disappoint­ing season for Peterlee Helford United, who were thumped 10-0 and have still to earn their first point of the campaign.

Gary McAndrew scored four, Liam Adamson a hattrick, with further goals coming from Rob Huntley, Ryan Barrow and Simon Todd.

Murton Colliery pulled away from the bottom of the Premier Division with a 7-3 win against Easington Lane WMC, Liam Appleby with four goals, Antony Cowie adding a brace and Luke Thompson one as Callum Haswell (2) and Joe Young replied.

In the First Division, South Hetton Cricket Club took over at the top with a comfortabl­e 3-0 win over Wingate Grange thanks to two goals from Brandon Cook along with a strike from Nathan Adamson.

Goals from Dave Kember and Stuart Coxon gave Peterlee Hearts a 2-1 win against Horden Legion, whose reply came from Jamie Cresswell.

Horden Cricket Club and Easington Southside shared a 3-3 draw with Shaun Bentley, Dave Watson and James Lowery on target for the Cricket Club, Michael Fox (2) and Matt Billyard for the Southside.

Adam Wallace and Tom Hopkirk paved the way for Seaham the Knack to beat Hetton Lyons 2-1, with Danyl Reay in reply for the Lyons.

In Division Two, Thornley Harry’s Bar beat New Seaham Westlea 4-3 with a brace from Ryan Lamb plus further efforts from Ethan Maddison and Tyler Curry, while Simon Jacobs (2) and Tom Farrell got Westlea’s goals.

Sherburn United strengthen­ed their promotion position moving up to second position when they hammered East Durham FC 5-0 with two goals from Tom Clark plus further strikes from Kevin and Mike Ambler and John Atkinson.

A feisty affair saw Seaham Parkside and Peterlee Acre Rigg Celtic finish all square at 1-1 but both teams reduced to 10 men.

Michael Kennedy was on target for the Parkside, Ricky Osborn for the Celtic. Matthew Mustard and Alan Smith were sent off.

The top two clubs in the Premier Division prior to the start of the weekend matches met in the quarter-final of the Premier Division League Cup, and it was Dawdon Welfare Park who came out on top with a 5-2 win over Peterlee Catholic Club.

A brace from Kyle Bell along with efforts from Robbie Bird, Nick Milburn and Marc Ruddock gave Dawdon victory, with Kyle Middleton and Michael Robson replying for the Catholic Club.
