Mechanics must build on victory at Jarrow

-

Washington midfielder Craig Hennis wants his side to move away from the Division Two relegation zone after their 3-2 win at top-six challengers Jarrow FC.

Fraser Colling handed the Mechanics a perfect start at Perth Green as he put them in front inside the opening two minutes.

Ryan Noble got the hosts back on level terms just after the quarter-hour mark, but Washington took a two-goal lead into half time with goals from Dylan Quinn and Kieron Broomfield.

Noble pulled one back for Jarrow with 11 minutes left, but the visitors held on.

Hennis said: “We knew it would be a tough game with Jarrow being in the top six, so everyone was buzzing with the win and to get the points.

“I think we were on top from the start and we dominated for most of the game, which gave us a lot of confidence to go on and get the points.

“The challenge for us now is to keep away from the relegation zone and to try and climb the table to get ourselves into a position where I feel we should be.”

Chester-le-Street Town succumbed to a 4-0 home defeat against Crook Town as Jake Petitjean, Liam Jarvie and Chris Dunwell were all on target for the in-form visitors.

Normal service was resumed at Billingham Town as the Division Two leaders won for the first time in three games with a 4-1 home win against Tow Law Town.

Second-placed Thornaby set themselves up for next weekend’s big clash with the leaders by seeing off West Allotment Celtic, 2-0.

Two Jack Pounder goals weren’t enough to help Easington Colliery to victory at Esh Winning, who won 5-2.

Northallerton Town won 1-0 against Heaton Stannington, Brandon United were thumped 9-0 at Redcar Athletic and Birtley Town and Ryton & Crawcrook Albion failed to break the deadlock in a low-key meeting at the Robinson Heating and Plumbing Stadium.
