Quacking good fun at WWT

-

Children will get the chance to meet the newest fluffy arrivals at Washington Wetland Centre this half-term.

Families will be given an exclusive insight into the world of birds from egg stage all the way to fully grown ducks.

Little ones will then get the chance to meet duckings and goslings with the keepers at the centre.

Talks will last about 10 to 15 minutes and will take place between 1pm and 2pm each day of the week.

This is a great chance for families to learn about the conservation efforts at both WWT and internationally to save some of the world’s most endangered water birds.

The centre’s outdoor nursery will also be open to get the kids out into the fresh air.

Visitors will be able to see the young birds take their first wobbly steps outside and be able to speak to the keepers about the feathered youngsters.

The nursery will be open between noon and 2pm.

WWT will be open as usual from May 25 to June 2 to not only welcome the new ducklings, but welcome visitors to get creative too.

The centre, however, is not just about ducks you can also learn about the fascinating under water world.

Free daily pond dipping sessions will be held for children to join the team in searching for water insects such as diving beetles and water boatman.

The drop-in sessions will take place at the Pond Zone between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Alternatively springthemed crafts will be held in the discovery centre with various activities to choose from for those looking to stay indoors. This hands-on fun will run daily from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Normal admission prices will apply and WWT members go free. Book online for discounted admission.
