SCOTS CLAIM TITLE AFTER ENGLAND SLIP
ENGLAND WIN ON FOUR RINKS BUT LOSE OUT TO WALES IN FINAL GAME
Although locally the outdoor greens are closed, there is still some outdoor action going on.
England agonisingly missed out on landing the men’s Under 25 home international series title on shot difference.
After beating Ireland 121-98 and holders Scotland 125-114, victory in their final game against Wales would have been enough.
However, they were always in trouble and at one stage were down on five of the six rinks trailing by 24 shots.
A spirited fightback saw England end up winning on four rinks but they still went down 123-121.
And that left the door ajar for Scotland who turned around an 11-shot deficit against winless Ireland to get home 112-102 and claim a third straight title by a single shot.
It was another great weekend for the Devonbased Kings BC as they completed a second successful defence of the men’s and women’s Top club titles at Leamington.
In the men’s final, they beat Buckinghamshire’s Gerrards Cross 4-1 to seal a fourth successful men’s defence while the women also retained their title with a 3-1 win over Hertfordshire’s Baldock Town.
The men’s international trials take place today at Leicestershire’s Kingscroft BC.
After this year’s very disappointing series where England landed the wooden spoon, all the players will be under scrutiny.
With Durham’s David Bolt taking a break from the international scene, the only northern hope is with Northumberland’s Chris Yeomans.
The women’s trial takes place at Warwickshire’s Nuneaton BC.
Next week, England will be going for gold at Guernsey as a mixed squad of Andrew Walters (Worcestershire), Tristan Morton (Huntingdonshire), Devon Cooper (Hertfordshire) and Katherine Rednall (Norfolk) will complete in pairs and as a mixed foursome.
