Dawdon and Catholic go through in the cup

-

For the second weekend running, the wet weather played havoc with games in the Chilla Pizza Peterlee Sunday League.

Only six matches went ahead, with three of those being Durham County Sunday Cup games.

Of the three matches in that competition, two clubs made progress, with Dawdon Welfare Park and Peterlee Catholic Club making it into the next round.

Easington Lane WMC lost in a tight affair 2-1 against Sunderland Southwick, their goal coming from full back Kyle Scott.

Two goals apiece from Callum Munro, along with efforts from Michael Bulmer and Robbie Bird saw Dawdon Welfare Park enjoy a 4-1 win over Sunderland Stella Dons.

Peterlee Catholic Club defeated Sunderland Lansdown 3-1, with goals from Liam Wintrip, Oliver Hotchkiss and Kyle Middleton sealing a deserved triumph.

There is still the possibility of another two clubs reaching the next round.

Easington CIU and Murton Colliery FC both play on Sunday, this after their respective matches were casualties of the wet weather last weekend.

Haswell Oddfellows Arms reached the semi-final of the George Ivey Memorial Cup when they enjoyed a 4-1 second leg quarter final success against Horden Legion.

There were two goals from Andrew Daley plus efforts from Owen Lucas and Billy Dolan.

Philip Robinson replied with a consolation goal for the Legion.

The other two matches that beat the weather came in the First Division.

Easington Leather Cap hammered Sherburn United 7-1 with a Jordan Williams hat-trick along with efforts from Joe Taboun and substitutes Tom Williams, Ian Rickaby and Jay Jobson.

James Bower fired home a consolation goal for the Sherburn outfit.

In the other game played in the division, goals fom Jamie Bennett, Jake Devine and sub Josh Pettler paved the way for Wingate Howden to take all three points in a 3-1 win against Seaham Parkside.

The consolation goal was sdored by Kevin Price.
