Patterson triumph helps England to win
Wearmouth boxer Shane Patterson celebrated his most recent England call-up by coming out of top against Ireland’s Mustafa Edris in Cannock.
Patterson, who was a 2018 European schoolboy champion, was able to win what was a close cagey opening round due to the success of his backhand.
During the second round, another potent Patterson backhand forced Edris to touch down and take a mandatory count before he recovered to have what was a better last round.
Patterson claimed a unanimous win and his victory helped the England squad to an overall 4-3 victory.
*Elsewhere in the HSK box cup in Denmark, Brad Crone - boxing at 56kg - defeated talented Welsh international Elio Algieri 5:0 in his semi-final.
In the final, he boxed Denmark’s national champion Daniel Malik and both boxers gave everything in an extremely close contest – with Malik taking the win via a split decision, leaving Crone with silver.
Max Dawson, boxing in his first tournament for the club, ended up with a silver medal.
His final at 46kg saw Valdemar Allerslev of CIK Denmark take a 4:1 split decision.
Kai Battista, boxing at 46kg, fought gallantly buthad to settle for silver after losing to international boxer Harvey Williams on a split decision.
This was the third year in a row the club has taken a squad to the town of Hillerod in Denmark for the tournament.
Coach Kenny Linton said: “The results mirrored the sheer dedication shown by the entire squad.”
