How to arrange garden waste collections in Sunderland

-

Residents of Sunderland can now sign up to receive 17 fortnightly collections of their garden waste from March to November 2020.

Residents of Sunderland can now sign up to have their brown garden waste bins collected.

There is a charge of £32.50 for the year and they will be collected on the same day as the green household waste bins.

Coun Amy Wilson, Sunderland City Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: "Our residents do a great job at recycling and looking after the environment, with approaching 30,000 households making use of the garden waste collection service last year.

“It’s really important to make sure the right rubbish goes in the right bin, so residents can make the best use of the space available in their bins.

"Signing up for garden waste collections is optional, but it is a very cost effective way to get rid of garden waste at less than £2 per collection.

“Despite ongoing budget pressures we have not increased the cost to provide the service to our residents this year."

Anyone who would like to use the garden waste collection service needs to make their payment before, Friday, February 28, 2020 in order to receive all 17 collections.

The charge of £32.50 will be the same regardless of when people sign up. Once registration is complete a letter will be sent explaining the service along with a sticker to be put on your bin.
