Supermarket giant Tesco has pledged to scrap shrink-wrapped multipacks across all its own-brand and branded tinned food in a move that will remove 350 million tonnes of plastic a year.

Do you think all supermarkets should follow suit?

Gary Thompson: It’s scandalous just how much single use plastic we use. It's even more ridiculous when you realise what happens to it when its supposed to be recycled.

Ian Taggart: Shouldn't be optional.

Steve P Murray: But when, had these promises before, then it takes years to implement.

Mark Keenan So. Wrapped four packs of tins. Beans etc, will now be sold individually and the price will be higher for four.

Leigh Shotton: Who are clicking No?

Pauline Ross: Obviously not bothered, shame on them.

Residents of Sunderland can now sign up to receive 17 fortnightly collections of their garden waste from March to November 2020.

Chris Wilson: Good idea and also charge dog owners for the upkeep of dog bins. Not everybody has a garden so why should everybody have to pay. just the same as not everybody has a mutt so why should everybody have to pay for the upkeep dog bins.

Gaz Rutter: Just put it in the green bin.

Sharon Hickman: There shouldn’t be a charge, I’ve got family who live in different parts of this county and they don’t get charged anything for collection of recycling bins.

Marshall Normington Do the council not sell this commodity on to the recycling company? They used to with the paper and cardboard collection which used to be sold to Thames Board in Cumbria.

G David Watson: I thought they were bringing the brown bins back.
