Pianoforte Society

This Sunderland society will meet in the Pottery Room at the Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, on February 11 at 7.15pm. Ugnius Pauliukoni­s is one of the leading pianists of Lithuania's new generation. He moved to Britain to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he is currently working towards his internatio­nal Artist Diploma. He has won numerous awards, including the RNCM Gold Medal (first ever solo recipient) and Making Music's PDGYA award. As a soloist Ugnius has played with the BBC Philharmon­ic and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestras. He has given solo and chamber music recitals in the UK, Germany, Italy and all of the Baltic states, performing in venues such as Wigmore Hall, London and the Bridgewate­r Hall in Manchester. This programme includes Haydn, Chopin and Ravel. Membership fees, held at £60, cover all seven concerts. Single ticket prices are £12.50, or £6 for students over 16 and those claiming unemployme­nt benefit. Accompanie­d children are free.

Ryhope remembers Hollywood

The Great Hollywood Musicals is being shown on January 29 at Ryhope Community Centre. An afternoon of pure nostalgia, doors open 12:30pm for a 1pm start. Tickets are £2.50, available from the Black Road centre. Telephone 0191 523 9371, or you can pay at the door. It is supported by City of Sunderland East Area committee, local councillor­s and area funding. Other Brian Ibinson film dates (all Wednesdays): February 26 The Great Hollywood Musicals part two; March 25 Golden Memories of Seaburn; May 6 The Happiest Days of Our Lives. All will be at Ryhope Community Centre, 1pm.

50/50 Social Dance

Social dancing to recorded music is at Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, off Sea Road, Fulwell on January 29, 8pm-10.30pm, £2. With tea and coffee, raffle and bingo, or bring your own refreshmen­ts.

Roker crafts

Meets 1pm-3pm in Roker Methodist Church hall, Sunderland. Each session is led by a member of the group. On January 31 the agenda will comprise the AGM, a planning meeting plus show and tell. Anyone interested in joining the group should bring a basic craft kit (eg pen, pencil, card fronts, trims, beads, bling, fine scissors). Tel: 0191 549 5878 for more details.

Beginner’s Pilates is held on Mondays, 7.15pm in All Saints’ parish hall, Cleadon. New members are welcome.

Hilarity Bites Comedy Night

This Peterlee Pavilion comedy night is on January 31 and features Micky P Kerr, Britain's Got Talent finalist 2018. Leeds-based comedian and social commentato­r, he is a breath of fresh air on the live comedy circuit. Fusing together music, spoken word and comedy, with his tongue often planted firmly in his cheek, he has already reached the semi-finals of both the So You Think You’re Funny and the BBC New Act competitio­ns. Fulwell martial arts

A Judo class takes place at Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, Sunderland on January 31 at 6pm. A class for Laido students follows, 7pm-9pm.

Cleadon Men’s Fellowship

The Men’s Fellowship of All Saints’ Church, Cleadon met on January 27 for the first meeting of the new year. New members were welcomed. The group meets in the committee room of the parish hall on the last Monday of each month.

Houghton stamp fair
