North East selectors have picked their teams for the Inter Country Cross Country Championsh­ips at Loughborou­gh and included in the senior team is Houghton Harrier Junior Cameron Allan.

The 20-year-old has got the nod after some early winter performanc­es that caught the selectors eye. A total of 94 athletes, including reserves, have been selected.

Houghton Harriers have a number of youngsters selected for the various teams for Loughborou­gh and included in the six strong Under-17 Men’s team are: Will Bellamy, HenryJohns­on,ChrisCouls­on and Samuel Gibson is named as reserve. Anna Pigford and Amy Leonard are down for the Under-17 Women’s team and Eva Hardie is included in the Junior Under-20 team, whileSunde­rlandHarri­erEve Quinnisare­serve.Houghton’s Brandon Pye is reserve for the Under-15 Boys.

The Gateshead Half Marathon, with an expected field of 1500-2000 runners, has been given the go-ahead by Gateshead Council. Full road closures will be in place in taking in Gateshead’s famous landmarks, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Baltic, Sage Gateshead, Tyne Bridge, Swing Bridge and finishing in the Gateshead Internatio­nal Stadium. The Half Marathon takes place on Easter Sunday, April 12, the same day as the popularNor­thTyneside­10km.
