Council seeking local firms for housing work
Businesses are being invited to find out more about how they can benefit from Sunderland City's Council's investment in new homes.
A ‘Let's Talk Council Housing’ event at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, February 13, is aimed at small builders, local contractors and suppliers.
Coun Rebecca Atkinson, cabinet member for regeneration and housing, said :" This event is all about setting out our plans for social housing and getting local companies on board to help us deliver them.”
“The council is planning to support the delivery of new affordable homes, make better use of existing housing and provide bungalows for older people and new accommodation for vulnerable groups in the city.
“We want local businesses to be part of this.”
She added: “We're looking to link our investment in housing back to local businesses wherever possible.
"I'd encourage local contractors, SMEs, builders and suppliers to sign up for the event and come along and find out more about how they can be involved."
The event will be held between 8.45 am and noon and will provide an update on:
*The council's approach to the delivery of new housing services over the next five years
*How local contractors can help the meet its aims
*How local businesses can play a role and secure new work opportunities
