South Hylton A narrowly fail to dislodge league leaders Birtley

South Hylton A failed to overhaul Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League leaders Birtley, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.

A 25-break helped Graham Rutland win the first frame for Hylton, beating Jordan Young 51-25 before Sean Henderson won a black-ball second frame against Adam Smith 71-64.

Norman Leslie moved Hylton back into the lead winning the third frame against Brian Meuse 67-34, before Neil Lowdon again levelled the match winning a blackball fourth frame against Gavin Dixon 66-53.

In the pairs, Andrew Drinkwater and Roful Hoque won Birtley the match beating Smith and Leslie on the final black.

Murton Officials started well at St Gabriels, with Justin Ebdy winning the first frame against Aaron Duncan on the final black 53-51 before Anthony Longstaff levelled against Stephen Clementson 60-8.

Ian McDermott beat Gary Stockton 72-8, Glen Lane won against Bobby Carne 79-48 and in the pairs Lane and Duncan won it for St Gabriels beating Stockton and Clementson 96-31.

Glendale beat South Hylton B 4-1 thanks to Thomas

Gwyn, Paul Atkinson and John Wiseman did the damage, Bobby Boyce with South’s point.

Steels beat Pennywell Comrades 3-2, despite Kevin Harrop and Dean Taylor putting the Comrades in front.

Ray Charlton Junior started the comeback against Andy Doran 55-44 before Jimmy Gales levelled against Joe Turner 60-44

Ray Charlton Senior and Vince Flynn completed the comeback beating Stuart Taylor and Steve O’Wellen 71-26.

and David Adamson helped Biddick A beat Seaham Conservati­ves B 3-2.

Manna Singh and Doug Scott registered for Seaham, whose A team beat Biddick B 4-1.

Robert Cougle, Les Pinder and Ian Hughes won it for the Conservati­ves, John Temple with Biddick’s point.

Mill View beat The Victory 4-1 thanks to Howard Lax, Norman Brown, John Spruce and Steve Chandler.

John Butler and Ray James won The Victory a consolatio­n point beating Spruce and Lax 62-55 to reduce the deficit.
