STORY: Boris Johnson has said a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in the UK will be brought forward to 2035.

Do you think the cost of cleaner vehicles needs to come down to encourage drivers to make the switch?

Simon Foster:

If everyone is driving electric vehicles there would have to be an influx of charging zones, not nearly enough to accommodate every driver on the roads, will be bedlam. I never get parked outside my house so how am I going to charge it use a petrol generator.

Roddy Macpherson:

Never mind where are people going to charge the cars, where is the electricity going to come from? Do the activists really believe that producing electricity and building the infrastructure is emissions free? Lunacy. Electric cars may be emissions free, but they are still polluting by shedding rust particles, tyre particles, and brake dust just as any conventional vehicle. A better start would be to make the national speed limit 50mph, and enforce it.

Vivienne Young:

Think there are other things that put people off, not just the cost. What will happen when the government realises the are not sustainable. Where will all the electricity come from, renewables?

Malcolm Armstrong:

How much is this going to cost, and where are they going to put all the electrical points for everyone to charge there car. I think the whole idea needs to be looked at again. It's crazy to get rid of all combustion vehicles. Are all the buses, lorries, ambulance, fire engines, police cars, going to be electric also?

Philip Amatt:

There needs to be a bigger "carrot" to tempt people to buy an electric car. With an average range of 250 miles, and a wait of an hour for a recharge, it sounds inconvenient. Then there is the traffic jam problem. Especially in winter when car heating will drain the battery. If you get a jam and several cars run flat, how do you get them charged? How do you release the traffic jam with several cars without power. I really don't think the problem has been thought out properly. It was ok in the early years of petrol. No cars on the road. A recharge was somebody turning up with a can of petrol.

Adriana Tait:

I would. make.my next car electric if it was much cheaper...
