Florists in full bloom to bag place in next round of cup

First Division side Grange Park produced a superb performanc­e to beat Premier League opponents Lansdowne 1-0.

Ryan Grimes hit the winner for his side to advance to the quarter-finals. Dobinson ran the show for Grange Park and Martin for Lansdowne.

In the Premier Division, sponsored by Middleton Jewellers, Sunderland Railway Club registered their first point of the campaign with a 3-3 draw with Washington Sky Lounge.

A brace from Logan and Halliday’s strike had Sky Lounge cruising but Stewart, Rogerson and Jake Baker rescued a welcome point.

There was another entertaini­ng draw in the First Division, sponsored by Hakitak Pet Laundry Ltd, when Ryhope CW and The Board Inn played out a 5-5 thriller.

Star man Steven Trotter netted four for the Board before Pearson come off the bench to hit a late goal.

Nesbitt, Davies, Hamed and a Bennett penalty secured a share of the points for Ryhope.

Bottom side Wearmouth CE now only have a handful of games to get themselves out of of the mire after a 3-2 loss at Sunderland Westend Potters.

Wearmouth’s Chris Hollern scored twice but the Potters responded with Dixon, Whealan and man of the match Dale Spence scoring to move them up to joint third.

A four goal haul from Paul Muir helped Queen Vic stay top of the league with a 5-3 success at Herrington.

Star man Nathan Stavers scored the other goal for the pace setters.

Hendon remained in touch with the promotion places in the Second Division, sponsored by Ringtone Mobile

Phones and Tablets, with a 5-1 triumph over Myers.

Anth Jones popped-up with two fine headers and Damo Knight also found the net to put Hendon in control.

Craig Richardson responded with an excellent effort for Myers but David Newby then hit a sublime volley from 25 yards that went in off the bar, following great work from Knight.

The fifth was scored by the impressive 16-year-old Owen Imeson, who nodded home after good work from Deacon.

Hall Farm Doxy Lad earned a point with a 2-2 draw with Oddies but it might not be enough to prevent them from suffering the drop.

Hodgson and Smith hit the target but fellow strugglers Oddies rescued something from the game through Webster and Maw.

Washington FC surged 10 points clear at the top of the Second Division with an emphatic 9-3 victory over Ashbrooke Rosedene.

Ashbrooke registered through Timm’s double and Stead’s strike but Washington ran riot.

Graham Stephenson and Cam Arthurs both completed hat-tricks and Huggins, McMann and Baddams added to the Washington tally.

Luke Higgins scored early for Wear United but it proved to be in vain as The Stella hit three unanswered goals to secure three points.

In the Third Division, sponsored by DST Shutters, Millfield Free Gardeners and Grindon Broadway shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Redpath and Varley found the net for Gardeners while Clasper and McQuillan responded for Grindon.

AFC Houghton are still leading the way at the top after a 4-2 win over Millview CIU. Goals from Ogunsuyi, McDaid, Morrison and Ashman earned Houghton the points. Millview hit back through Clifton and Swansbury.
