Striker breaks his silence after seeing deadline day move blocked

-

Southend United striker Charlie Kelman says rumoured interested from Sunderland is none of his concern – after he saw a deadline day exit from Roots Hall blocked.

According to the Southend Echo, Kelman was the subject of two six-figure deadline day bids from the Black Cats and Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

But both bids were knocked-back by Southend,

who were keen to retain the services of the talented 18-year-old.

There were few complaints for Kelman, though, who is focused purely on helping lift Sol Campbell’s side away from relegation danger in the third tier.

“Having interest is nice but that’s not my concern,” said the striker, speaking to the Southend Echo.

“My concern is to finish the season with as many goals as I can and hopefully we can catch the teams above us.

“I also want to repay the faith of the manager, the staff and the fans.”

Aiden McGeady is still waiting for his Charlton Athletic debut.

The winger left Sunderland for the Valley on deadline day, sealing a half-season loan switch after being told he had no future at the Stadium of Light by manager Phil Parkinson.

But he is yet to feature for his new club, and was left out the squad entirely for the Addicks’ 3-1 defeat at Stoke City.

And Charlton confirmed that McGeady’s absence was due to an illness rather than anything more sinister.

Meanwhile, Jack Baldwin impressed once again as Salford City earned a 0-0 draw with Crawley Town.

The centre back played the full 90 minutes for the Ammies as they secured another vital point in League Two.

Jack Diamond was handed another start for Harrogate Town in their 2-0 win over Eastleigh – and was handed the club’s player of the match award after their FA Trophy triumph.

Oxford United will look to reignite their interest in outof-favour Sunderland striker

Will Grigg this summer.

Grigg was again missing from the Sunderland matchday squad for the 1-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Oxford boss Karl Robinson declared his interest in Grigg in January but the Black Cats were unwilling to let him go to a potential promotion rival.

The Sun claim Oxford could now reignite their interest this summer, with a permanent move.
