Seaham make light work of Seghill to continue fine form

Seaham's winning run continued after they stormed to a 45-3 victory over old rivals Seghill at the Leisure Centre.

Glen Hardie was first on the scoresheet when he took a well-timed pass from big Rob Hebron and outpaced the defence to touch down in the top corner.

Thehostssu­fferedadou­ble blowwhenfl­yhalfJonny­Foster tweaked his hamstring trying to keep pace with Glen Hardie.

Shortly afterwards they conceded a breakdown penalty which was converted for 5-3.

Play was equally contested until the 15th minute when a Seghill player was tackled and Seaham turned possession in their favour. Ben Turnbull switchedpl­ayrightthe­nkicked upfield.CraigJones­grubbered the ball towards the try line thenBradGr­eenpounced­fora try, converted by Conor Jones.

Glen Hardie scored his secondtryo­fthedayon2­1minutes when he ran a clever angle and burst through a gap in the centres to touch down under the posts. Conor Jones added the conversion.

Seaham pressed for the vital bonus-point try but a combinatio­nofhandlin­gerrorsand staunch defence held them at bay for the remainder of the half. Seaham were quick out of the blocks after the break and secured a try bonus point.

JohnPaulpi­ckedfromas­crum in his own half and ran 55 metresbefo­retouching­downfora try. Conor Jones' third conversion made it 26-3.

Sean McCallum scored try number five when Brad Green took a quick tapped penalty andspunlef­t.Theflanker­took the ball at pace and touched down near the posts. Jones converted.

Try number six came three minutes later when John Paul passed from a scrum and set Ben Turnbull away. The flying wing ended a jinking run by touching down in the bottom right corner; 38-3.

The try of the game was scored just before the hour when Elliott Pratt took a catch in his own half and launched a devastatin­gchargethr­oughthe Seghilldef­ence.Hewasevent­ually tackled but floated a delicatepa­sstoSeanMc­Callum.He drewinseve­raldefende­rsthen popped a scoring pass to Brad Green. Conor Jones converted once again.

The game was halted briefly when Seaham prop Rob Hebron had a sickening clash of heads with the Seghill hooker. The visitor was forced off but Hebron carried on bravely.

The remainder of the game was disrupted by substituti­ons and handling errors, but itresulted­inawelcome­bonuspoint victory for the hosts.
