Police say woman died after collision
Crash investigators have confirmed a woman left seriously hurt after she was involved in a collision with a car has died.
Jean Hardy, 71, was left fighting for her life in a critical condition in hospital following the incident, which happened in Doxford Park Way in Sunderland on Tuesday, February 4.
The emergency services were called to the scene at 5.34pm following a report of a crash between a car and a woman.
Police closed off the dual carriageway in both directions while officers dealt with the incident.
The North East Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the scene, outside Morrisons supermarket at the William Doxford Centre.
It sent four resources to the area, including a doctor from the Great North Air
Ambulance.
The patient was then taken to the major trauma unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, after she sustained a head injury.
Police investigating the collision have previously appealed for any witnesses to come forward and said they had spoken to the driver of the car, who was not injured.
The pedestrian has been named as Jean Hardy from the Doxford Park area of Sunderland. Specially trained officers are currently supporting Jean’s family. A force statement added: “Officers are keen to speak to any motorists who were driving in the area at the time.”
