Birtley continue to lead the way at the summit of snooker league

Birtley maintained their lead at the top of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League with a 4-1 victory over Murton Officials.

The league leaders eased to the win courtesy of winning frames from Jordan Young, Sean Henderson and Andrew Drinkwater. Stephen Clementson replied for Murton.

In the pairs, Brian Meuse/ Roful Hoque beat Justin Ebdy/Bobby

Carne 67-25 for the win.

Adam Smith got South Hylton A off to a winning start away to Seaham Conservati­ves A. However, that was as good as it got as Les Pinder, Ian Hughes, Gordon Elliott and Pinder/Robert Cougle, in the pairs, ensured a 4-1 home win.

Boldon CA stormed to a 5-0 win over The Victory, thanks to winning frames from Derek White, Craig Barron, John Smith and Smith/ White, in the pairs.

Kevin Harrop got Pennywell Comrades off to a winning start at home to Seaham Conservati­ves B, before Dean Taylor won a close second frame against Harland Davidson.

Robin Midson pulled one back for Seaham, before Stuart Taylor won the fourth frame against Colin Dobson.

In the pairs, Joe Turner/Steve O’Wellen won a close frame beating Colin Dobson/Robin Midson 58-53 for the 4-1 win for the Comrades.

Biddick B claimed a 4-1 away victory at Mill View, thanks to winning frames from Peter Mills, John Temple, Graham Hutton and Mills/Temple, in the pairs. John Spruce replied for Mill View.

St Gabriels travelled to

Glendale and started well with Anthony Longstaff winning the first frame, before Thomas Gwyn levelled the match.

Paul Atkinson continued his good form to move Glendale into the lead, before a 54 break won Glen Lane a high scoring fourth frame against John Wiseman 82-70. In the pairs, Ian McDermott/Lane won St Gabriels the match beating Wiseman/Atkinson 65-23 for the 3-2 win.

South Hylton B welcomed Steels and started well with Bobby Boyce winning the first frame, before John Harrison won the second frame. Tony Hazard won the third frame against Ray Charlton Senior, before Jimmy Gales pulled one back for Steels. In the pairs, Vince Flynn/Lee Norton beat Ian Stewart/Paul Buckley 51-30 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.
