Williams wins Golden Fleece darts finals night

Paul Williams is celebratin­g after coming out victorious in the Golden Fleece Darts Premier Division finals night.

In the final, Williams saw off the threat of Marco Laybourn to claim a narrow 119 victory. Williams enjoyed winning legs in 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 (three),20and21(twice),which included three 180s.

Laybourn’s best legs came in 14, 17 (twice), 18 (twice) and 20 darts (twice), with a stunning 180 thrown in the mix.

Earlier in the evening, the first game of the night saw Williams beat Peter Wilson 7-1. Williams had winning legs of 16, 17 (twice), 18 (twice) and 20 dart legs. Wilson’s consolatio­n leg came in 18 darts.

Laybourn then beat Gary Richardson 7-5, with both players’ best legs coming in 17, 18 and 21 darts.

Andy King defeated Charlie Thompson 7-2, with King’s best legs coming in 16, 19 and 20 darts.

MarkReeves­edgedoutSt­eve Richardson to secure a 7-3 success, with legs of 16 (twice), 17 and 18 darts.

In the first semi-final, Williamsst­rolledtoas­tunning9-0 triumph over Andy King, with winningleg­sof16(twice),17,18, 19 and 20 darts.

In the second semi-final, Laybourn was made to work hard for his 9-6 victory over Mark Reeves, with winning legs in 17, 18 and 20 darts (three). Reeves came close to booking a final place with best legs of 15 (twice), 19 and 20 darts, plus two superb checkouts of 130 and 120.

*NathanAspi­nalloverca­me world champion Peter Wright in a remarkable quarter-final clash on his way to winning Players Championsh­ip 2 in Barnsley, where there was alsoafirst­victoryont­hePDCPro Tour for Lisa Ashton.

Aspinall posted a 117.5 average in beating Wright 6-4, as well as hitting a nine-dart finish - the fifth of the weekend at the Metrodome.

Thepair'scombinedm­atch average of 115.59 was the highest recorded in PDC history.

Aspinall went on to thump Gabriel Clemens 7-0 in the semi-finalsbefo­restorming­to an 8-3 victory over world number three Gerwyn Price in the final. "I've never thrown darts like that," Aspinall is quoted as saying by PDC.tv. "The last two hours of play I just felt like Iwasn'tgoingtomi­ss.Tothrow such a big average against the worldchamp­ionmakesit­even more special."
