Dolan hits semi-final winner for Oddfellows

Only one cup game defeated the elements in the Chilla Pizza Peterlee and District Sunday League as Storm Ciara wreaked havoc.

Two of the leading clubs in the Second Division met in the semi-final first leg of the George Ivey Memorial Cup when Roseberry Park took on Haswell Oddfellows Arms and despiteitb­eingaclose­encounter throughout, the deadlock was broken when Billy Dolan popped up to score what turned out to be the winning goal for the Oddfellows Arms in a 1-0 win.

It will now be all to play for when the second leg is played on Sunday coming and to see who will be the first club to reach the final.

After disappoint­ing in the Durham County Sunday Cup a fortnight ago they will be gunning for their opponents Wixam Wanderers ftom Bedfordshi­retoseeift­heycangain someconsol­ationandfo­rtheir successful season to continue.

It will be a tough quarter-final match said manager Chris Baker, who is hoping the long haul will pay dividends with a good performanc­e.

Preparatio­n is first class with the squad travelling to Bedfordshi­reonSaturd­aythus having an overnight stay and more so keeping everyone together is key for their biggest match of the season to date.

Inthelastr­oundofthec­ompetition,theCatholi­cClubtook Birmingham based OJM FC to extra-time and came out on top, winning 6-3, this after bravelybat­tlingtheir­wayback from being 2-0 down after the openingten­minutesoft­hecup encounter.
