Apprentice Sarah is showing the way at BIC

-

The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) has welcomed a new employee to the marketing team through a programme with training provider Baltic Apprenticeships.

Sarah Booth, 20, joined the BIC as a digital marketing apprentice and is already well on the road to the beginning of a successful career as a digital marketer.

Having gained three A-Levels from Sunderland College and a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design from the University of Sunderland, Sarah decided to jump straight into the marketing industry. She said: “I learn better actually doing the job rather than being classroom based. I think it’s a brilliant way to learn and gain valuable experience. I’d much rather be earning a wage while I’m learning.”

Sarah’s 12 month apprenticeship covers STEM subjects including coding and Google Analytics and also focuses on the principles of marketing, both on and offline.

The advantage is that as well as the subjects set out in her course Sarah will also get the chance to cover the dayto-day activities that come up in a busy marketing team.

Paul McEldon, chief executive of the North East BIC said: “We are delighted to have Sarah join our team. Young people can offer a fresh perspective and it’s been very beneficial for us to hear her thoughts.”

Shae Dickman, marketing manager at Baltic Apprenticeships said: “We’re delighted to be working with a fantastic employer like the BIC who are supporting the local economy and changing the futures of young people.

“Sarah is an excellent example of the benefits apprentices can bring.”
