Tune into podcast that’s on a theatre tour

-

A hugely-successful podcast, which sees a Sunderland writer team up with comedian Bob Mortimer, is heading out on a national theatre tour.

Athletico Mince has proved such a hit, racking up more than 30million listens in 99 episodes since it began in March 2016, it’s been turned into a theatre show which is touring venues throughout March, including four shows across two nights at Newcastle’s Tyne

Theatre and Opera House.

The podcast is presented by comedian Bob Mortimer, of Reeves and Mortimer fame, and Andy Dawson from Sunderland.

What started out as a football podcast quickly strayed into more comedic territory and fans regularly listen to the podcast for updates from characters such as Barry Homeowner, Roy Hodgson, Peter Beardsley and Neil Hunt, Nonsense

Potter – most of whom are featured in the live show, along with songs, quizzes and dancing.

Bob said: “I’d always wanted to work on something football-related.

“But within about three weeks of starting the podcast, I realised my football opinions were meaningless so we just started to do stuff that would make us both laugh instead.”

Andy said: “For the live shows we’ve brought the podcast to life.

“Rather than sit behind a table and just replicate an episode recording, we’ve tried to turn it into a proper comedy show with dazzling levels of stagecraft.

“Only the audience can decide if we’ve succeeded.”

Most tour dates are sold out, but a few tickets remain for the Newcastle dates, on March 6 and 7, at 6.30pm and 9pm each night.
