Four years ago he joined Shettleston Harriers, the club that welcomed a number of Eritrean asylum seekers into their ranks after the World Cross Country Championships in Glasgow in 2008.

Having represented Eritrea in the Olympics it may prove difficult for him to qualify again for GB. But it may be possible for him to compete for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The Alnwick Harrier League on Saturday should have been the last of the six Harrier League fixtures, but Lambton Park on March 14 and Druridge Bay on March 29, have been rearranged.
