Portuguese winger on Newcastle’s summer radar

-

Newcastle United reportedly retain an interest in Braga winger Ricardo Horta.

Reports in Portugal claim United continue to monitor the player, who according to Record, was subject to a Magpies offer of around £11million in January.

Wideman Horta has been in sensational form for his club side this season. In his 39 games to date he’s scored 18 goals in all competitions, while laying on a further seven goals for his team-mates.

This form has seen Horta emerge as an outsider to make defending champions Portugal’s Euro 2020 squad.

Portuguese print publication Record claim United would not have to cough up the player’s £25million contractual release clause, although they would have to up their reported initial approach.

Meanwhile, according to the Daily Record in Scotland, United continue to keep an eye on French frontman Odsonne Edouard.

Everton and Manchester United are also claimed to be interested in the player, who is rated in the £30million bracket by Celtic.

The Hoops paid £9million to PSG for the player in the summer of 2018, following a successful loan spell at Parkhead.

Elsewhere, former Newcastle United midfielder Ki Sung-yueng has been signed by Spanish side RCD Mallorca.

The South Korean international, formerly of Sunderland, Celtic and Swansea City, has signed a short-term deal until June 30, 2020.

Newcastle’s Easter weekend will start early with the date finally confirmed for the visit of West Ham.

After some confusion last week, which saw the game announced by Sky Sports, only to be reeled back in, has been signed off as a Good Friday game, kick-off 8pm.

A club statement reads: “Newcastle United’s Premier League home game against West Ham United will be played on Friday, April 10.

“The match – originally scheduled for April 11 – was chosen for live broadcast in the UK last week, but further consultation with the authorities was required.

“Next month’s game against Aston Villa (March 21) would be rearranged if Newcastle progress to the (FA Cup) quarter-finals.

“While a new date would be needed for United’s trip to Man City (April 18) should one or both sides reach the semifinals.”
