The Grange dig deep to rescue a point at Millfield Free Gardeners

-

The Grange were forced to dig deep to salvage a share of the points in their game at Millfield Free Gardeners in the Sunderland Sunday League Third Division, sponsored by DST Shutters.

The Gardeners slugged it out in a six-goal thriller against The Grange who matched their efforts despite the 11-point gap between the two sides.

Lane, Moan and Mather rescued a point for The Grange.

Washington New Tavern put their semi-final heartache behind them with a close 2-1 away win over Millview CIU.

New Tavern claimed the win courtesy of goals from Robinson and Liddell then Dan Hardy struck a late consolation for the hosts.

Hosts Washington United blazed local rivals Washington

Cherry Tree 6-3 in a dramatic encounter.

Star striker Jack Ramsden and Rowan Christie each came away with a brace for United and then Freeman and Quinn made it six for the home side.

The Cherries replied three times but it wasn't enough for the visitors.

AFC Houghton’s away game to Velocity FC ended up the same scoreline as the

Washington derby, in favour of first-placed Houghton.

It came as no major surprise that Stan Ogunsuyi, whohasnetted27leaguegoals since signing for the club last year, was a man possessed yet again for the pacesetters.

Ogunyusi notched just the two goals on Sunday rather than the four that he got last time round, Wadey added a further two then Fletcher and Teasdale completed the rout.

Velocity did well and managed to breach the Houghton defence when Raeper scored followed by a couple of goals from Brad Allan.

In the Fourth Division Subsidiary Cup, The Avenue moved further away from Washington North End with a comfortable 4-1 win.

Palmer grabbed a brace, with Brook and Groark also on target before Connor Scott hit a late penalty for North

End.

Whitburn enjoyed a rare win in the Subsidiary League after beating this season’s whipping boys Cross Keys 3-0.

Wyatt, Felce and Chalk were on hand to fire past Alex Southern in the hosts goal.

Daz Green and Yoxall scored for visitors Witherwack to give them hope, but Doxy Lad scored three late on to seal a 3-2 win and leapfrog them in the table.
