and South Tyneside.”

The nomination also praised the way the team had set up health and wellbeing events such as workshops where experts explain more, and that increases the patient’s confidence. It also empowersthemtobettermanage theirownhealthandrecovery.

Amy Johnstone, Head of Cancer Services for South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The team are delighted to be recognised in these awards and I’d like to say well done to all involved.

“They are overwhelmed at how successful the health and wellbeing events have become. They designed and implemented them after noticing a clear gap for patients with a cancer diagnosis in relation to their ongoing health and wellbeing.

“The team felt that they were in a position to help and that they could gather expertise from within our hospitals, and from community partners and charities, to offer support.

“Patient feedback from the events has been very positive. They have been variously described as ‘thought-provoking’,’ motivating’,’ inspiring’, ‘informative’ and ‘relaxed’. Patients also said that they found it invaluable to meet other people with a cancer diagnosis to share resources and to know that they are not alone on this journey.”

The Cancer Services team is one of a number of health heroes who have already been nominated for awards. We want more.

There is plenty of time to put your own health heroes in the running for honours.
