The typical council tax bill in England is set to increase by £64.65, according to research from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. Would you be prepared to pay more?

Andy Turner: A rise was inevitable and it will keep rising after central government made councils responsible for budgets such as mental health etc . Places like Sunderland just cant raise the revenue to cope with such things and it also takes the heat of central government and puts it on local authorities. It will just keep going up and more and more cuts will be made to services ....

Elaine Bolam: They need to put back what was taken away from local authorities not put our taxes up. Do not know where I am going to find it. Single persons pension. Only gave up work age 73 as business closed.

Alison Jane: Tribe Don’t they think we pay enough already our wages don’t increase that much

Diane Eastick: Would I be prepared to? I don’t think we have a choice do we? Plus council funding has been slashed so much by this government councils have to try and claw something in to be able to fund essential services.

Tony Isles: It's quite a skill, failing badly , self congratulating and still getting the votes. Surely Sunderland Labour city council deserve a medal

Brenda Crosby Scott: Why ask if we would be prepared to pay more? We don’t have a choice!

Patrick Lesca: They cut too many services over the years to justify any increases

Jon Crosby: Not when we are paying more for less service

Karen Johnson: Is that a rhetorical question as we don’t get a choice Wayne van Purvis: Also, MPs have giving themselves a nice 3% pay rise!!

Christopher Smith: I dont mind paying more if the money actually goes towards the right things and helping the city thrive

Alison Bilton: It’s about time these big bosses at councils were made to get a cut in salaries
