Contracts event raises charity cash

-

An event to connect builders and contractors in Sunderland with upcoming council projects has raised more than £1000 for the city’s foodbank.

The Let’s Talk Council Housing event brought together over 125 small builders, contractors and suppliers to highlight opportunities for local firms to benefit from Sunderland City's Council's investment in new homes.

The council is planning to support the delivery of new homes, make better use of existing housing and provide bungalows for older people as well as new accommodation to support vulnerable groups in the city.

One of the key aims of the City Plan which sets out the council's plans for transforming Sunderland into a dynamic, healthy and vibrant city over the next decade is around supporting local businesses.

The Let’s Talk Council Housing event aimed to link investment in housing back to local businesses.

Money raised from the event’s 15 sponsors will go to helping the Sunderland Foodbank support people dealing with food poverty across the city.

Coun Rebecca Atkinson, cabinet member for regeneration and housing, said: “I’m delighted that our partners and sponsors at the Let’s Talk Council Housing event have come together to raise this money for the Sunderland Food Bank, which will allow them to continue doing important work and support people throughout the city.”

Jo Gordon, Sunderland Foodbank Coordinator, said: “We are overwhelmed by the generous donation and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved.”
