Funeral service for garage fire victim
The family of Sunderland man Mark Herron, whose body was discovered following a garage fire, will say goodbye to him at a service in the city.
Mark Herron, from Bedford Place in Silksworth, died on Tuesday, February 18, aged 53.
He was found at an address in Tunstall Village Green, Sunderland, days after a fire in a detached garage at the property.
Northumbria Police confirmed a murder inquiry had been launched following the discovery of Mr Herron in the aftermath of the blaze.
Mark was found to have died as the result of the fire, according to the results of a post-mortem examination.
An inquest into the death of Mark Herron was opened and adjourned in Sunderland on Thursday, March 5.
A 38-year-old Wearside man was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been released under investigation.
A funeral service will be held for Mr Herron at Sunderland Crematorium on Wednesday.
The service will start at noon and those due to attend are asked to wear casual clothing.
The family is asking for family flowers only and donations to Basics homeless charity if desired. In the funeral announcement, the family said: “Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.”
Mark's family are being supported by specialist officers as investigations continue into his death.
Floral tributes were placed outside the property where he died and members of the community have shared their condolences.
