Further businesses and premises have been ordered to close by the UK Government in a bid to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Families must now stay indoors, with exceptions for essential shopping, outdoor exercise once a day, unavoidable travel to and from work and tending to medical needs.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson also revealed that public gatherings of more than two people – apart from those you live with – have been barred, alongside weddings, baptisms and other events.

All “non-essential” retail premises were ordered to close by the Government on Monday, with the following exceptions:

*Supermarkets and other food shops

*Health shops, pharmacies including non-dispensing pharmacies

*Petrol stations

*Bicycle shops, garages, car rentals

*Home and hardware shops

*Laundrettes and dry cleaners *Pet shops *Corner shops, newsagents, post offices, and banks

Market stalls which offer essential retail, such as groceries and food, are also permitted to stay open in line with the latest Government advice.

Members of the public were urged by the Prime Minister to work from home where at all possible.

Though cafes and restaurants were also ordered to close in a separate update on Friday, food deliveries and takeaway services may continue to operate.

A Government document said that “everyone is instructed to comply with the rules” to protect both themselves and others.
