Ramshaw issues passionate plea for fans to follow Government advice
Sunderland captain Keira Ramshaw has made an impassioned plea for supporters to follow Government advice.
Boris Johnson has urged people to stay at home during the coronavirus outbreak as he warned people will only be allowed to go out for "very limited purposes" including shopping for basic necessities and one form of exercise.
The Prime Minister has banned public gatherings of more than two people and ordered the closure of non-essential shops as part of a series of new measures aimed at slowing the spread of the disease.
And speaking exclusively to the Echo, Sunderland Ladies star Ramshaw, explained her thoughts on the latest measures.
“I think it’s massively important that we all follow the Government's instructed measures,” the 24-year-old explained.
“If everyone is on the same page we will get through it together.
“We seem to be getting everything in place and I’m feeling confident that the UK will come out of this nightmare soon.”
The midfielder has also detailed how Sunderland
AFC has responded to the coronavirus outbreak.
Sunderland Ladies last played on March 15 against Stoke City Women, Phil Parkinson’s men lost away to Bristol Rovers five days earlier.
Since then, the COVID-19 virus has led to the postponement of all professional and amateur football in Britain until at least April 30, with that date likely to be extended given the current crisis.
Ramshaw added: "The club have been following the guidelines from the government and the Football Association fantastically to keep everyone safe
“We have been given a home-based fitness programme, which is keeping us focused and ticking over so that we can continue to work towards our goal of winning the league.
“We check in daily with our strength and conditioning coach who then feeds information to Mel Reay.
“They take great care of us even in hard situations like this and we are massively grateful for that.”
Sunderland announced on Monday that it was closing the Academy of Light for the foreseeable due to the coronavirus outbreak.
