Crumbie determined to add stability and realise Boldon’s potential
Boldon CA manager David Crumbie has revealed his determination to help the club realise its potential over the coming seasons.
Crumbie was installed as the Boldon boss last summer after former club Harton and Westoe folded, and by his own admission he has overseen a campaign comprising “ups and downs”.
With the Wearside League season heading towards a premature end as the coronavirus epidemic continues to spread around the country, Crumbie’s side sit in eleventh place in the table.
There have been some notable results and performances throughout his first season in charge.
They include a 1-0 win against South Tyneside neighbours Hebburn Town Reserves and a thoroughly convincing 7-1 win against former Northern League club Darlington RA in the semi-finals of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup.
But there have also been a series of underwhelming performances during the campaign and Boldon saw their chances of securing a topeight finish ended by some poor results.
However, Crumbie believes that there is a buzz around the club after they reached a cup final and won six of their last eight games in all competitions.
He told the Echo: “My first season at Boldon has had a lot of ups and downs.
“I always knew it was going to be hard keeping the Boldon players I wanted and integrating the lads from my Harton and Westoe squad when I took over.
“When you add into the mix a number of new players, it was going to be hard to get that all to gel.
“We had a lot of unrest in the first few weeks of the season and that showed in our results.
“But I had things off the pitch that I wanted to get right, so I looked at this as a long-term project.”
Crumbie can see a great deal of promise at Boldon, saying: “The club has so much potential it’s crazy and I want to be the man to achieve success at this club along with my coaching team.
“I spoke with them about how we could turn the mood around over Christmas and it seems that we have a buzz around the club since the turn of the year.
“We have got to a cup final and we have found some consistency.
“Now we have to build on that.”
