Four in court charged over alleged street clash

Three men and a woman have appeared in court accused of being involved in an alleged violent weekend street clash in Sunderland.

David Clark, 35, his partner Leigh Coulson, 31, both of Gordon Terrace, Southwick, Sunderland, Shaun McGregor, 31, of Beechwood Crescent, Marley Pots, Sunderland, and a fourth defendant, Luke Owen, 33, of Beatty Avenue, Town End Farm, Sunderland, appeared before South Tyneside Magistrate­s’ Court this week to face charges in connection with the alleged incident on Sunday.

Clark is charged with violent disorder, dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon, arson with intent to endanger life, arson, an assault of actual bodily harm and attempted actual bodily harm.

Coulson faces charges of violent disorder, arson with intent to endanger life, an assault of actual bodily harm against Owen, arson, threatenin­g to kill Mr Appleby and threatenin­g to commit criminal damage against him.

McGregor is charged with a single count of violent disorder.

Owen is charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Clark and McGregor were remanded in custody by District Judge Kathryn Meek at the hearing at South Tyneside Magistrate­s’ Court on Wednesday.

Coulson was granted bail subject to conditions, including an electronic­ally monitored 7pm to 7am curfew.

Owen was also granted bail on conditions, including the same curfew.No pleas were entered at the hearing and all defendants will appear at Newcastle Crown Court for their next hearing on Tuesday, May 5.
