STORY:

Two major Sunderland developments will go head-to-head for a prestigious award. The Beam – the first building on Sunderland’s Vaux site – and Hylton Castle have made the final lineup in the Project of the Year category of the Constructing Excellence in the North East (CENE) Awards, which are due to be held in Newcastle in September.

Paul Burke:

Hylton Castle is head and shoulders above that monstrosity. Absolutely brilliant renovation of a stunning old building.

Eileen Joyce:

Who the hell is trying to compare that ugly monstrosity to Hylton Castle? Come on it’s horrendous! Hylton Castle by miles.

Jim Tansey:

Hylton Castle is class. The Beam is aesthetically hideous.

STORY:

Outdoor exercise remains one of the few essential activities that Britons can do during the coronavirus pandemic-induced lockdown. Health Secretary Matt Hancock however suggested that these rules could be tightened if enough members of the public failed to adhere to tight social distancing rules. The warning came after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during warmer weather.

Joanna Hindmarsh:

Police need to act on what powers they’ve got we don’t need full lockdown it will ruin it for people who are genuinely adhered to the rules and it will cause more stress on those who are struggling too like me. My mental health has depleted the week and half I’ve had countless anxiety attacks so I do not wish for this at all they need to stiffen the penalties they’ve got.

Peter Raine:

Went over to the freeman hospital yesterday pasted the town moor where the hoppings set up there were loads of people walking dogs walking etc.

Margaret Bell:

People are taking no notice cos they not scared of our police anymore.

Hank Witherspoon:

I don't think they do like, it's quite clear. More like just don't care.

Caroline Lindsay:

Get them fined!
