Two more COVID-19 deaths confirmed

Two more coronaviru­s-related deaths have been confirmed at the main hospital trust serving Sunderland.

The number of people to have died after contractin­g COVID-19 at hospitals served by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has now increased from 252 to 254.

The overall North East rise confirmed yesterday was from 938 to 970 deaths. NHS England’s figures showed that 552 new deaths were confirmed and that the overall English total is now 19,301.

The latest fatalities were aged between 31 and 99 and 38 of them, aged between 36 and 99, had no known underlying health condition.

According to NHS England, the breakdown of the number of deaths of people who tested positive for coronaviru­s at North East hospitals is as follows:
