Eight more deaths from coronavirus
Eight more people being treated for coronavirus at hospitals in Sunderland and South Tyneside have sadly died.
The number of people to have died after contracting COVID-19 at hospitals served by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has now increased from 254 to 262 with eight more deaths recorded yesterday.
The overall number of deaths in the North East has risen by 20 from 970 to 990.
A 14-year-old with no underlying health conditions was among the 445 new deaths confirmed by NHS England , bringing the overall English total to 19,746.
According to the figures from NHS England released yesterday, the breakdown of the number of deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus at North East hospitals includes:
South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust – Total number of deaths at the trust: 262. Number of deaths announced yesterday: 8.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – Total number of deaths at the trust: 135. Number of deaths announced yesterday: 3.
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust – Total number of deaths at the trust: 70. Number of deaths announced yesterday: 1.
South Tees NHS Foundation Trust – Total number of deaths at the trust: 178.
Number of deaths announced yesterday: 0.
Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – Total number of deaths at the trust: 86.
Number of deaths announced yesterday: 4.
