What are my benefit rights during coronavirus lockdown?

-

Q. I have been advised by The DWP that my current PIP award will end at the current assessment period.

I thought all claims will currently continue in payment and reviewed at a later date so why will my payment end?

A. The extension only applies if your current PIP award was decided by The DWP.

If your current award was as a result of a Tribunal Decision then you award ends on the date given by the tribunal, the extension given won't apply.

Make sure you request a PIP claim pack as these aren't always automatically sent when the current award ends.

Q. I was in receipt of Working & Child Tax Credits and I was furloughed.

I made a claim for Universal Credit but didn't check if I would actually get any Universal Credit.

I have no entitlement and my Tax Credits have also stopped. Can I go back to Tax Credits.

A. Unfortunately you cannot go back to Tax Credits in this situation. Once you submit a claim for UC it will end any legacy benefits, if your UC entitlement is nil you cannot go back to legacy benefits.

It is always advisable to have a benefit check and discuss your options with an advisor.

Q. I will be eligible to claim Pension Credit soon but I cannot get through to Pension Service which I expect is due to staff being reallocated.

Can I claim online or get a form to make a claim myself.

A. The DWP/Pension Service are planning an online service for Pension Credit from 5th May.

We currently do not know if this will be an online claim process, forms that you can download to complete and post or even a combination of the 2 methods.

Q. I am pregnant and my employer wants me to isolate but won't furlough me and states I should claim SSP instead. Is this correct?

A. For any pregnant woman who has queries regarding both benefits and employment rights during lockdown we would advise that you firstly contact Maternity Action on 0808 802 0029 who have comprehensive advice concerning specific rights for expectant mothers.
