City breakdown of virus deaths

New data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows which areas of Sunderland have seen the highest number of deaths related to COVID-19.

The statistics, which were published yesterday, give a breakdown of the total number of corona virus related deaths within the city for the first time.

According to the figures, 193 coronaviru­s deaths were confirmed in Sunderland up until April 17.

Overall, Southwick is the area which has seen the highest number, with 16 recorded.

Fourteen deaths had been recorded in Hetton-le-Hole North and 12 in Hylton Red House and Marley Pots.

The following is a full breakdown of coronaviru­s deaths in Sunderland by area:

Southwick, 16; Hetton-leHole North, 14; Hylton Red House and Marley Pots, 12; South Hylton, 10; Hill View and Tunstall, 10.
